Evelyne Gebhardt is Member of the European Parliament since 1994. She is Member and spokesperson for the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament for the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection. She was Rapporteur for the Services Directive. Furthermore she is Substitute Member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs and Member of the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China. Evelyne Gebhardt is Member of the SPD (German Social Democratic Party) since 1975 and helds the position of the representative federal chairwoman of the Committee of Social Democratic Women (ASF) since 1992. In 2008 she was appointed as Member of the "Commission for the liberation of growth in France" by Nicolas Sarkozy. She was awarded with the Bundesverdienstkreuz am Band in 1999 and elected two times as "European of the year" (2005, 2006). Born on 19 January 1954 in Paris, she studied linguistic studies including Politics and Economics at the University Paris VII (Sorbonne Nouvelle) and at the Universities of Tübingen and Stuttgart (1972-1977). Since 1975 she is resident in Germany, Mulfingen (Hohenlohekreis, Baden-Württemberg).
